OUTRAGE AT MP’S ‘GHETTO’ REMARKS

Carol Woods, Lib Dem Deputy Leader of Durham City Council has today slammed the City’s Labour MP for labelling Durham’s villages as “low income ghettos”.
Carol said: “As a village resident and a Councillor representing seven villages, I’m calling on the MP to name which of our villages she thinks are ghettos. I think it’s grossly unfair and inaccurate to describe any village in Durham in this way.
She added: “The City Council has provided over 800 affordable, good quality homes for many local people and I have already been contacted by residents expressing their outrage that their MP would class their neighbourhoods as ghettos.
“I think her comments show how out of touch she is with the people of Durham and the villages and she should withdraw her remarks and apologise for the upset and anger they have caused.”
