Lib Dems continue campaign to save local schools

Lib Dem education campaigner Carol Woods has again called on the Government to save two threatened local schools from closure.
Government proposals, backed by Durham's Labour MP, have earmarked Belmont and Gilesgate School for closure. The Lib Dems have opposed the move from the outset.
Lib Dem Carol Woods said, "I attended a public meeting on this issue when the plans were announced and opposition to the closures from local parents was unanimous.
"I make my judgements based on what is right for the people of Durham. While politicians in London might be in favour of Academies, I'm fighting on the side of parents in Durham who do not want to see their schools closed.
"Our Labour MP is so used to doing what she is told by her London bosses that she bemused by the idea of putting the concerns of local residents first.
Carol continued "The Government should provide the investment and freedom to all schools without holding them to ransom and with no strings attached." |
