Lib Dems slam Labour's 10p betrayal

Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson, Carol Woods, has accused Durham’s Labour MP of playing politics with poverty after it became apparent that Ms Blackman Woods intends to do a u-turn over the 10p tax change.
Ms Blackman-Woods originally voted along with the Government to axe the 10 tax band – a move that will hit the pocket of 5 million of the lowest paid.
It now appears that, following intense public outrage at the move, the MP was preparing to back the amendment proposing compensation measures had it come before Parliament next week.
Carol Woods said, “Whilst I obviously back any measures aimed at reducing the impact of this Labour tax grab, this u-turn by our MP is too little too late.
Either she voted for it in the first place without giving enough thought to the low paid of Durham, or she just didn’t care.
“Time and time again she has blindly followed the party line to the detriment of local people. In the last month alone she has voted to close local Post Offices and deny crucial funding to Council Houses.
“Her pang of conscience on this occasion holds no water. If she genuinely disagrees with the tax changes, why did she vote for them in the first place?
"This £7 million tax grab is the last straw for many former Labour supporters, and who can blame them?”
