Lib Dem regeneration success

Local Lib Dem County Councillor Dennis Southwell has succeeded in securing a massive injection of funds as work continues to regenerate the Gilesgate area.
All County Councillors in Durham district were asked to put forward a scheme in their area for consideration and Cllr Southwell fought off strong competition to put a very positive scheme forward which was successful against seven other initiative schemes.
The Urban and Rural Renaissance Scheme will create an educational nature area and encourage healthy lifestyles.
It is to be located to the rear of Laurel Avenue, Pelaw. It will aim to regenerate existing open space which is currently neglected, overgrown and attracting fly tippers. It will also provide walking routes which would connect to existing routes as well as planting and art features designed by local children and young people.
A grant of £25,000 has been received and local sponsors and partners are set to reach the target of £124,000.
Cllr Dennis Southwell is working very closely with all concerned to ensure the success of the project. |
