LABOUR LOSE CONFIDENCE IN THEMSELVES!
21st January 2008

The Labour Party in County Durham is in crisis again after its members called for a vote of no confidence in their own leader for the second time in months.

In a sign of the rotten management at the core of the New Labour Party in the region, 12 County Councillors have signed a motion declaring they have no faith in their own leader, Albert Nugent.

Mr Nugent is currently leader of Durham County Council and could be in line to lead the new Unitary Authority that Labour has imposed on the County. Doubts over his and his party’s suitability for that role can only have been confirmed by this damaging episode.

Durham Lib Dem campaigner Carol Woods, commenting on the latest shambolic development said,

“Perhaps they’ve seen the effect Kevin Keegan has had on morale at Newcastle United and they hope a new leader can turn around their underperforming side as well.

“At the minute they are more concerned with in-fighting and back-stabbing than they are with looking after local residents. These are the same people who wasted our local taxes on hiring a PR spin doctor to advise them on their presentation skills – they’ve completely lost touch with local residents.

“People were already turning away from Labour in their droves after they ignored our referendum on the Unitary. This latest fiasco only confirms what disarray the party is in. How on earth do they expect people to trust them to run the new council when they cannot run their own party?

“Come May 1st I think the people of Durham will give the whole lot of them a vote of no confidence.”
