International spotlight on Durham election race

11.51.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 30th Apr 2010

Liberal Democrat candidate Carol Woods has attracted international attention in her fight for the knife-edge seat, City of Durham.

Australian state-owned broadcaster SBS has been filming candidates across the country in seats that might change hands, including seats in Dagenham, Luton, Swindon, Durham and Scotland.

Filmed today, Carol said:

"It's great that SBS decided to film in Durham today as it recognises the great chance we have of winning here.

"There is clearly a surge in Lib Dem support, locally and nationally.

"With continued support in the last week I know that the Liberal Democrats can beat Labour in Durham and secure an end to 75 years of Labour MPs in this area. Durham deserves a fair, positive future."
