CAROL WOODS SUPPORTING LOCAL BUSINESS SUCCESS

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 24th Aug 2009

Liberal Democrat campaigner Carol Woods has been visiting local businesses in Durham and has welcomed the news that some are succeeding despite the recession.

Carol said, "A lot of the businesses I have spoken to are struggling but some are still managing to do well in spite of the economic downturn and the lack of Government assistance.

"These businesses have worked hard over many years to build a strong reputation in the local community.

"I spoke to the owner of Flowers 4 U in Langley Moor. He told me how he is managing to maintain a successful business by providing quality service and goods. As the recession bites people are being more careful about where they spend their money and they recognise the value of a well-run local store such as this.

"While it remains a very difficult climate for most businesses in which to succeed, but there are companies and individuals that are managing to buck the trend. More must be done to ensure other businesses that have not been as fortunate are given the support they need. Small businesses play a vital role in our communities and we should be helping to ensure they survive.
