Les Thomson has lived in the Gilesgate Moor area of Durham City with his wife since 1967. He has one adult son and two young grandchildren. He retired from British Transport Police after 26 years service and since has been actively involved in several things especially as a volunteer with St. Cuthbert's Hospice in administration and fund raising.
Les has a real affection for this area and its people. He was elected to Belmont Parish Council in September 2004 and subsequently to Durham City Council in May 2005. Since then, in June 2006 he was appointed to the Council Cabinet and now serves as Portfolio Holder for Housing
